Simon Carves was proud to sponsor the annual Macclesfield Half Marathon for the 5th year running.
On Sunday 27th September the sun was shining and local runners turned out in force to take on the challenging route of the half marathon which winds 21km around Macclesfield. Beginning at Macclesfield Leisure Centre the course weaves through four miles of urban road and then off into the beautiful Cheshire countryside.
655 people crossed the finish line, along with 156 finishers of the 5K race and lots of enthusiastic youngsters in the fun run. The race was won by James Scott-Buccleuch of the Stockport Harriers (01:14:32), and Victoria Perry was the fastest female in a time of 01:31:41.
For the first time this year the race included pace runners for those aiming to cover the distance in under 1h30, 1h40, 1h50 and 2hrs.
Simon Carves’ Engineering Manager, Brian Cornah, was on hand to present the awards to the race winners.
As always hundreds of spectators gathered at the athletics tack to watch the race and enjoy the refreshments on offer; creating a wonderful atmosphere at the finish line.
All profits from the race are donated to charities, and Simon Carves’ contribution will help the volunteer organisation make a significant donation to the East Cheshire Hospice; which has so far benefitted nearly £67,000 from the race over the years. This year the East Cheshire Hospice has made an appeal to buy 17 replacement beds each costing just over £9,000 and race organisers hope that this event will raise enough money to buy one of them.
