ECITB Project Management ACTIVE Cup 2015
During the weekend of 26th to 28th June 2015, teams from Engineering and Construction companies from up and down the UK battled it out for the ECITB Project Management ACTIVE Cup.
James Bluer, Cesar Gallego, Nikhil Chelorakandy, Teddy Happy, and Chris Whittaker were the lucky few chosen to represent Simon Carves this year; hoping to match our success in 2008 and bring home the cup.
Held at the Cranfield School of Management the challenge aims to give people an insight into the world of Project Management whilst instilling the ACTIVE principles of ‘Achieving Competitiveness Through Innovation and Value Enhancement’. Tasked with project managing a 25-30 week project from start to finish over the course of a weekend the challenge isn’t for the faint hearted. It requires exceptional planning and organisational skills, as well as willingness to pull an all-nighter.
Only two companies managed to make a profit in their simulated projects this year, KBR and Costain; with Costain taking home the trophy.
Although initially disappointed not to have won, the Simon Carves team agreed that it was a valuable experience and a great way to understand the full lifecycle of project delivery. They learnt a lot about working under pressure, reacting quickly to change, and about how vital good project management is to the success of any project. Well done team!
