ECITB Active Cup 2014 Competition
The ECITB Active Cup is a bi-annual event which sees teams of engineers struggle to project manage a 25-30 week project from start to finish – over the space of a weekend. Held at the Cranfield School of Management, and now more than 20 years old, this challenge aims to give people an insight into the world of project management, and to instil the ACTIVE principles of ‘Achieving Competitiveness Through Innovation and Value Enhancement’.
Simon Carves have entered many teams over the years, and our company have a strong reputation among the event organisers, particularly for consistently exhibiting the Active Principles. We last won the cup in 2008, and this year a ‘crack team’ were sent to try and bring the trophy home. Comprising of Mark Cullen, Mark Dale, Jennifer King, Dave Morgan and Dinesh Vijayakumar, our team held no previous project management experience, but a keen desire to learn (and learn quickly!)
Unfortunately, we didn’t win. However we did manage to complete the project on time, with profit, and we all found a new appreciation for the difficulties involved with project management. Thankfully the rules prevent anyone from re-entering for a least another five years; however we’ll be sure to pass on all we learned to next year’s team, in the hopes that they’ll do even better!
